As the largest and most well-preserved sacrificial building in China, Temple of Heaven attracts lots of visitors every day. It was the place where the emperors in Ming and Qing Dynasties worshipped heaven and prayed for good harvests. Since its completion in 1420 until to Qing Dynasty, there are 22 emperors held 654 sacrifices here in the 500 years. Covering an area of 273 hectares, it is four times larger than the Forbidden City, is the largest altar in the famous four altars in Beijing including the Temple of Earth, the Temple of Sun and the Temple of Moon. Temple of Heaven is divided into two parts as well as the Forbidden City separated by a circle wall, including the Outer Altar and Inner Altar, and the main buildings are in Inner Altar, on the north-south axis.
